Seminar Module
The Seminar Events Page was introduced in response to the pandemic, enabling the online continuation of events while increasing platform logins by 18%. Users can register, join, request access, and share events.

About TechInsights Inc.
TechInsights is a semiconductor database platform; with a subscription, customers can get access to millions of semiconductor reports, teardown analyses, data tables, and forecast reports to mention a few. Alongside the web platform, is the TechInsights mobile app, where users can access PDF forecast reports, TechStream blogs, and videos.
Impact
01
The 5th most visited page in the platform
It’s the 5th most visited page on the platform, featuring popular upcoming seminars led by SMEs.
02
18% increase in platform logins
It increased platform logins by 18% since it brought users directly into the TechInsights Platform rather than redirecting users to a third party webinar tool.
03
Continued delivery of content
It enabled online events during the pandemic and the foreseeable future, instead of solely in person events.

Kick Off
Project Context:
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, TechInsights hosted in-person seminars at company locations across the globe such as China and the UK. Here, subject matter experts would present valuable semiconductor information. With the world shifting to an online model, it was important for TechInsights to also shift in this direction
The problem:
-
A third party tool that was used for seminars at the time, GoToWebinar was unfortunately blocking users in Asia due to a firewall.
-
GoToWebinar, was being used outside of the platform thus, not requiring users to log into the platform. This did not benefit TechInsights' goal to maintain active users within the platform.
Discovery and Understanding:
-
Learning and diving into the technicalities and production of seminars to better design a page with relevant information based on user and stakeholder needs.
-
Getting familiar with the third party replacement tool, LiveWebinar, as this would be added via API

Upcoming seminar tab:
I referenced design layouts specific to webinar event pages while considering TechInsights’ design system patterns. I sketched wireframes to include elements such as the event date, time, title, vertical subscription name, filters, registering, requesting access and two tabs for Upcoming Seminars and Past Seminars.

Task Flow
Past seminar tab:
I created a task flow of the internal workflow of the stakeholders who were ultimately uploading and publishing post-production content. The past seminar tab within the seminar module had to take into account the post-production timeline as this played a role in the design. This included:
-
Video editing — a task with an approximate turnaround time of 5 to 7 days.
-
Crafting marketing emails for promotional purposes
-
A review from the publishing team
-
PDF presentation of the seminar

Continuously Learning
Whats Next:
TechInsights recently added Heap Analytics to its suite of produtcs which would allow qualitative data collection for the Seminar module once added to the new Platform. I’m curious to learn more about the user flow and if users are dropping off at all during registration and the overall usability such as, if the Past Seminar tab is browsable and easy to navigate with the presentation thumbnail instead of the omitted calendar icons.
Reflection:
Companies often leverage third-party tools to add value to their existing product. This project taught me about Application Programming Interface (API) and the balance required between technical limitations, user and stakeholder needs to build a product that is useful.
